WEST HAVEN, Conn. –
Coming off of an 18 day break, the New Haven women's basketball team dropped a 57-44 decision to Le Moyne to close out the 2022 portion of its schedule and head into the New Year. With the loss, New Haven falls to 6-4 overall and 3-4 in the Northeast-10.

Leading the Blue and Gold on the day was senior post Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden), the only Charger in double figures, as she completed a double double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Deshaies led all players in the game from the floor where she connected on 6-of-8 , while also going 2-of-2 at the free throw line. Following her in leading the way was graduate guard Camryn DeBose (Wellington, Fla./Wellington Community) who chipped in eight points.

Overall, New Haven finished the game shooting 34 percent (18-of-53), with four of those 18 field goals coming from outside the three-point arc. They were also a perfect 4-of-4 at the free throw line with senior guard Kameryn King (Old Saybrook, Conn./Mercy) providing the two in addition to Deshaies' pair.

Heading into a new calendar year, the Chargers will open up with a non-conference test as they welcome Dominican to West Haven for a battle of the Chargers. Opening tip off in the NE10-CACC battle is slated for 5:30 p.m. All of the action will be available live on the Charger Sports Network on NE10 NOW.

FIRST QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS

·        The Chargers came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, scoring the first six points of the game and extending that to nine of the first 12 to open up a pair of six-point leads. Deshaies and Briana Van Cleaf (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy) provided all of the Chargers first nine points with both going 2-of-2 in the fist 3-plus minutes, including a three pointer from Van Cleaf.

·        After trailing by six for the second time, the Dolphins began to acclimate, going on to hold the Chargers scoreless the remainder of the quarter to take a 16-9 lead into the first break.

SECOND QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS

·        The two teams would trade pairs of free throws to open up the second quarter before New Haven looked to cut into its deficit with Deshaies breaking a nine minute drought between field goals with a layup on a second chance opportunity.

·        Le Moyne responded to that field goal by opening up its first double digit lead of the day using back-to-back three pointers, to which New Haven answered by scoring back-to-back buckets of their own thanks to Bianca Pendleton (Accokeek, Md./New Hope Academy) who came off the bench to spark the offence.

·        The Dolphins weren't going to let that rally continue however, scoring the final six points of the quarter to take a 30-17 lead into the halftime intermission

THIRD QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS

·        New Haven opened up the second half the same way they started the game, scoring in a flurry, with the first five points of the half all coming within a 33 second span. Aliyah Wright (Albany, N.Y./Colonie Central) opened up the Chargers scoring in the second half with a three pointer off a feed from King, while DeBose provided the next two on a fastbreak steal and layup.

·        After trading the next two buckets, the Dolphins went on to score the next eight points, holding UNH without a field goal for more than six minutes, all while building up a 40-24 lead.

·        However, New Haven would get the final answer of the quarter as freshman Lindsay Hogan (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) scored on a jumper with six seconds remaining, her first collegiate points thanks to an assist from King.

FOURTH QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS

·        The fourth quarter would begin as a back-and-forth battle before New Haven looked to cut into their deficit midway through the period.

·        It would be later it the frame when the Chargers managed to cut the deficit into single digits thanks to a pair of free throws from King.

·        The Dolphins would capitalize at the line down the stretch, making seven-of-eight attempts to provide the final margin of the afternoon contest, 57-44.
