Smith Tallies Four Three’s in Chargers Fourth Consecutive Win

New Haven Starters: Quashawn Lane (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy), Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y. /Elmont Memorial High School ), Majur Majak (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), Tavin Pierre Philippe (Brooklyn, N.Y./Baldwin High School), Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie)

Franklin Pierce Starters: Mohamed Traore, Isaiah Moore, Brandon Kolek, Maxwell Zegarowski, Sean Trumper

How it Happened
The Blue and Gold wasted no time starting a 17-0 run in the first four minutes, holding Franklin Pierce scoreless. In this initial spark, Tavin Pierre Philippe (Brooklyn, N.Y./Baldwin High School) had already acquired eight points: two three's and a dunk. Come to find out he was one of five who finished with double figures in the scoring column for the Chargers.

In the first half, New Haven was up at most 25 points when Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) laid a three in the basket. Holding the Ravens to 35.7 percent the field, the Chargers walked into the locker room up 21, 46-25.

Franklin Pierce's leading scorer, Isaiah Moore, had eight points in the first half. Typically Moore averages 22.6 points per game, however New Haven's stellar defense only allowed him ten to finish the night.

Amidst the second half, starting at 11:47, the Chargers held the Ravens scoreless for a solid six minutes. In that time frame, they kicked off a 20-0 run with efforts from Sean Smith Jr. (Yonkers, N.Y./Sacred Heart High School), Derrick Rowland (Cohoes, N.Y./Green Tech), Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie), and Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y. /Elmont Memorial High School )

Smith had one made three-pointer in the big run for the Chargers. He led the Chargers in three-point baskets finishing 4-of-5 from beyond the arc, the most he's had in a single game all season. His final three-pointer of the night came with four minutes left on the clock, and handed New Haven their largest lead of the evening, a whole 39 points.

Rowland's ten points allowed him to move past Barry Cunningham in all-time scoring at the University of New Haven. Since 2017, Rowland has accumulated 1,267 career-points and now sits 22nd in program history.

The big man, Majur Majak (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), closed out with a perfect field goal percentage, 12 points, 16 boards, and three blocks. Majak rendered in his third double-double of the season, second consecutive. The senior center put up 12 points and 10 rebounds when New Haven hosted Southern New Hampshire last Thursday.

Maxwell Zergarowski leads the Falcons in three point shooting, he's also fourth in the conference with a .432 three-point shooting percentage. New Haven's defense limited him to two attempts, he was unable to connect on both.

The 39-point lead dwindled down to 29, but the Blue and Gold still walked away with their fourth consecutive win before heading into senior night, and their beloved in-city rivalry matchup.
