The Chargers start their season off 2-0 after Marina Skelly (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) scores the game-winning goal with ten seconds left on the clock.
How it Happened
The Chargers got on the scoreboard early, after only 2:22 of action had passed. Mary Rishmany (Tiverton, R.I./Bishop Stang) received a pass from Marina Skelly (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot). Skelly then scored eight minutes later, with a goal from Cameryn Antler (Hebron, Conn./Mercy) almost immediately after, to give New Haven a 3-0 edge.
Sabrina Chandler of Georgian Court, had back to back goals right before the close of the first quarter, cutting the Lions deficit from three to one.
The score was ironed out in the first fifty seconds of the second quarter when Isabel Raimondi found a way to put the ball past Gabby Buscemi (East Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford). Georgian Court eventually had the lead shifted back in their favor when Shaine Sauter assisted Heather Devaney's goal.
Buscemi, who is now 2-0 on the season, had 12 saves on an attempted 22 shots.
This change of leads allowed New Haven to go ahead and put up five goals in a matter of less than seven minutes before the end of the second quarter. Annie Aquavita had the tying goal, which was unassisted. Raegan Bailey (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) closed out the quarter with an unassisted goal to put the score to 8-4.
Bailey scored the Chargers tenth goal of the afternoon, putting the score at 10-7. Georgian Court retaliated by scoring three, Sauter had the tying goal.
In the final ten seconds, New Haven's leading scorer slipped the ball past Georgian Court goalkeeper, Alexis Hahn, allowing the Chargers to walk off with their second victory of the season. Hahn had a total of five saves.
