Chargers Fade Away in the Fourth, Fall to Saint Rose

Saturday afternoon's match up at the College of Saint Rose was only the third meeting between the two schools, the Golden Knights now hold a 2-1 advantage over the Chargers. New Haven held on until 1:09 in the fourth quarter, when Saint Rose stole the lead as time ran down on the clock.

How it Happened
After an unsuccessful Saint Rose possession, Marina Skelly (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) was given the ball from Reagan Bailey to bring the first point on the scoreboard. Just under two minutes after Saint Rose ironed things out scoring with 10:00 left in the first quarter. The lead eventually shifted in favor of the Golden Knights when Daria Bock scored off a free position attempt. Bock scored again nearing the end of the first quarter, but Skelly cut the two-goal deficit for the Chargers to one.

Skelly again, in the second quarter, cut the Chargers deficit from two goals to one. Reagan Bailey added another goal to make things even 4-4 going into halftime.

After the break, New Haven spilled out a three-goal run which ended with 2:23 left in the third quarter when Bock scored her seventeenth goal of the season. Throughout the game she scored six times.

Saint Rose opened the fourth quarter scoring three goals taking the lead 8-7. With five minutes remaining, Bailey tied it up on a free position shot after Eileen Rattigan was yellow carded.

For three minutes, the score was tied 8-8. Bock came in clutch for the Golden Knights scoring just seconds after head coach, Sarah Martin called a time out. Only 1:09 remained and after a missed FPS from Skelly and a shot from Bailey that was saved by Dorothy Gaffney in the net, New Haven was unable to redeem themselves with another goal for a tie.
