WEST HAVEN, Conn. – It was a beautiful day for a win at the New Haven Tennis courts. The Chargers took the match over region opponent Post University, 5-2.
Some big wins to start off the day came from the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles competitions. In second doubles, Gaayatri Shankar (Kochi, India/TocH Public School) and Nicole Mika (Staten Island, N.Y./Laurel Springs) had strong performances, winning their match 6-3. The third doubles pairing of sophomores Anna Katz (Miami, Fla./Laurel Springs) and Abby Murphy (Southington, Conn./Southington) dominated the eagles 6-1 in their matchup.
Karim Carreras (Asuncion, Paraguay/Colegio Bautista de Villa Morra) fought the closest winning match of the day in the No. 1 singles. Carreras won both sets, but not handedly. She won her first set 6-4, then her second 6-3.
Kacie Banks (Marietta, Ga./Marietta) kept her momentum, coming off of an individual win over Division I competition last weekend. Banks won at fourth singles and shut out her competition in the second set of her individual match.
Anna Katz (Miami, Fla./Laurel Springs) didn't record just one shutout set, but a sweep in sixth singles. Katz wasn't the only dominant performance on the day as Alexa Orlando (Frederick, Md./Middletown) also swept her competition at fifth singles.
