For the third time this season, freshman Raegan Bailey (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) etches six goals. Her final goal, scored with 3:57 of action to remain, solidified the Chargers win over No. 18 Assumption after six leveled scores.
How it HappenedÂ
Cameryn Antler (Hebron, Conn./Mercy) scored her 13th goal of the season on a successful shot from the 8-meter arc to put New Haven on the scoreboard first. Just minutes later Assumption scored, man-down, to level out the score 1-1, the first of six tied scores throughout the night. The Greyhounds tied things up 2-2 after Bailey added the first of her six goals.Â
The Chargers were held scoreless the remainder of the first quarter following the Greyhounds goal from Olivia Catanzarite, which was the start of a 6-0 run for Assumption. That run ended when New Haven started off the second period with a 4-0 run over a four minute span. Annie Acquavita (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) and Antler scores, as did Gianna Caprioli (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Franklin Delano Roosevelt) and Bailey as a result of free position attempts.Â
Cypress Levitt (Calais, Vt./Montpelier) scored her first goal of the night just seconds before the conclusion of the second quarter to put New Haven and Assumption at an even nine goals. Coming out of the break, Bailey gave New Haven a one-goal advantage which was offset and leveled out again when Jill Good scored for the Greyhounds.Â
Entering the final 15 up one goal, Assumption scored a trio of goals in under three minutes, shifting the lead to the Greyhounds as 7:44 remained. Mary Rishmany (Tiverton, R.I./Bishop Stang) and Antler went back to back to level things out for the final time, 15-15.Â
Assumption won the draw control in the circle, forcing New Haven's defense to give it all they had in hopes of gaining possession again and clearing the ball. The Greyhounds aimed two shots at goalkeeper, Gabby Buscemi (East Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford), in which one was wide and one was saved.Â
New Haven's Laura Agbayani (Niantic, Conn./East Lyme) scooped her second gourd ball of the night and New Haven was back on offense. The ball made it's was to Bailey who was then fouled in front within the 8-meter arc, allowing her to have a free position attempt. The Chargers were man-up from a yellow card on Assumption's Ella Tenney, and Bailey's shot from the arc was good.Â
The clock ran down and New Haven was able to rake in an upset over the No. 18 Assumption Greyhounds and improve their conference record to 5-5.Â
