WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Make that two in a row for the Blue and Gold. The Chargers take down Dominican 5-2 and tie their longest win streak of the year.
Alexa Oralando continued her hot streak with a powerful performance in the No. 5 singles competition. The sophomore recorded another shutout in her first set, which was her third in a row. She let up just one point in the second, still a dominant performance. Orlando has only given up a single point over the entirety of the past two matches.
Two other notable performances came from Karim Carreras (Asuncion, Paraguay/Colegio Bautista de Villa Morra) and Kacie Banks (Marietta, Ga./Marietta) at the No. 1 and No. 4 singles, respectively. Both Carerras and Banks shutout their competition for the first set but fought closer matches to take the win in their second sets. Abby Murphy (Southington, Conn./Southington) also joined the win column by default.
Sophomore Anna Katz (Miami, Fla./Laurel Springs) and graduate student Gaayatri Shankar (Kochi, India/TocH Public School) led the way in the doubles competition, just one point shy of sweeping their matchup at the No. 2 doubles pairing of the day. The No. 1 pairing of Carerras and Lilia Rodriguez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Colegio Marista) overpowered their competitors as well, taking the victory 6-2.
