Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Anderson's First Career Goal Goes Down as Game Winner in 2-1 Season Opening Win Over Post

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Junior midfielder Elizabeth Anderson (Lakeville, Mass./Apponequet Regional) scored her first collegiate goal and she made it a big one as she net the game-winning tally thanks to an assist from graduate midfielder Mackenzie Myers (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) in the 75th minute as the New Haven women's soccer team took a 2-1 victory over Post University.

Joining Anderson in the scoring column for the Blue and Gold was junior forward Dakota Cimetta (Coral Springs, Fla./J.P. Taravella) who also notched a goal against the Eagles in the season opener a year ago. Cimetta opened the scoring for both teams when she connected with freshman defender Riley Drosopolous who along with Cimetta had come off the bench to enter the points column.

New Haven dominated the possession throughout the game, notching a commanding 22-6 advantage in the shot column with eight of those marked on goal, forcing the Eagles keeper, Imelda Lazaro, to make six saves. On the flip side, Amanda McQuillan (Meath, Ireland/) was forced into action just once in 90 minutes in her first game between the pipes with the Chargers.

The win for the Chargers extends a streak of season opening success, having not posted a loss in the first game of the year since the 2010 campaign, with just a single tie in those 11 years.

New Haven will return to Pace Stadium on Saturday when they take on the Georgian Court Lions in the second game of the season-opening set in Pleasantville. Opening kickoff against the Lions is slated for 5:00 p.m. with all of the action available live on NE10 NOW.
