WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The New Haven field hockey team completed its two-game road trip at Vonnie Gros Stadium's astroturf, taking on the No. 2 Golden Rams of West Chester, dropping an 8-0 loss decision.
West Chester, ranking at No. 2 in the nation at the Division II level according to the NFHCA preseason poll, held the Chargers scoreless while taking control of the game early on. The Golden Ram's first goal came in just the fourth minute with Paige Wolfe scoring what would count as the game winner.
The Golden Rams controlled the pace of the game shortly after, forcing the Chargers defense to defend 23 penalty corners. However, great corner defense from the Chargers allowed the Golden Rams to only convert on two of those penalty corners. Jasmine Miller and Valerie van Kuijck led the way for West Chester, netting two goals apiece.
The Golden Rams outshot the Chargers 50-5, putting 27 of those shots on goal, where the Chargers forced goalkeeper Megan Gulla to make two saves on the opposite end. Sophomores

Kelli Jacobson (North Branford, Conn./North Branford) putting two shots on goal for the Chargers. One of the shots coming from a penalty corner and the other from an offensive effort from the Chargers.
Despite the score, graduate goalkeeper Kiera Integlia had a strong performance in goal. Totaling a career-high 19 saves on the day, out of the 27 shots on goal from the West Chester offense.
After spending the weekend in Pennsylvania, the Chargers will head home and regroup to prepare for a non-conference matchup against Assumption College, the final test before opening Northeast-10 Conference play. Looking for their first win of the season, that game is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, September 21st at 7:00 p.m. on Assumption's home turf.
