WORCESTER, Mass. – Transfer midfielder Johannah Lee (State College, Pa./State College Area) scored her first goal as a Charger as the New Haven field hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision on the road at No. 9 Assumption on Thursday under the lights at Brian Kelly Stadium.
Lee's first goal with the Blue and Gold came with five minutes remaining in the third quarter as she connected with graduate student Taylor Geaglone (Enfield, Conn./Enfield) as the pair cut the deficit against the Greyhounds in half. The goal, which came on one of the Chargers four penalty corners, came from 10 yards out shooting right to left on the goal. Lee collected the push pass across the circle from Geaglone where she fired a bullet to the opposite corner for the tally. The goal by Lee was the first in the all-time series against Assumption.
The Chargers also looked to make a push at knotting the score in the final seconds when they were awarded a penalty corner with 10 seconds remaining. The shot attempt off of that corner was chipped up and over the cage as time expired.
Overall, New Haven trailed Assumption 10-8 in the shots column, however the majority of the Chargers shots were marked on target as Greyhounds keeper Kylie Cargiulo was forced to make five saves. On the other end, Chargers keeper Keira Integlia (Branford, Conn./Branford) finished the night with four saves as six of the Greyhounds 10 shots were on target.
The Chargers will conclude their five-game season-opening road trek with their NE10 opener this weekend when they head to Colchester, Vt. to take on the Saint Michael's Purple Knights. The initial NE10 game is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start at Duffy Field.
