WORCESTER, Mass. – After going 2-1 in Delaware and taking home two weekly conference awards, the New Haven women's volleyball team returns to the court, still on the road but back in the Northeast for a matchup with the Greyhounds of Assumption University. Macy Brown (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) coming off winning NE-10 player of the week and Sophia Leon-Tabor (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers) who won setter of the week look to stay perfect against an Assumption team that the blue and gold have never lost to.
Series History
In the 14 match history of these two teams, New Haven has never lost and have only ever dropped two sets to the Greyhounds. Last year New Haven traveled to Worcester and won 3-0. This is the first of two meetings in the season with this first one being a non-conference matchup before later in the year the Greyhounds traveling to West Haven for the conference matchup between the two teams.
Scouting the Chargers
New Haven is coming off of a 2-1 record at the Wildcat Regional Invitational and sit at 5-6 on the year heading into the matchup with the Greyhounds. Macy Brown (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) took home NE-10 player of the week following her performance at the tournament which also earned her a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Brown leads the team with 156 kills on the year along with 150 digs. Sophia Leon-Tabor (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers) also took home a weekly award, winning setter of the week as through 11 games has totalled 291 assists on the year and 126 assists in the tournament, 61 coming in the match against Wilmington. Brown and Leon-Tabor highlight the top and with the return of Emily Barry (Freeport, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) to the lineup along with the emergence of freshmen and returners the depth of the Chargers has only grown.
Scouting the Greyhounds
Assumption enters the match with the Chargers 1-3 overall and 1-0 in the NE-10 on the year coming off a non-conference matchup loss against Saint Anselm. Alexis Distasio leads the way for the Greyhounds with 56 kills while Kyra Belden spreads the love with 81 assists on the year. Brandi Montoya leads the defense with 65 digs. Assumption is a young team with only three seniors on the roster while there are five sophomores and four freshmen along with two juniors all of who are trying to build chemistry together.
