WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The New Haven women's tennis team completed its week with a 7-0 shutout of Saint Anselm for its third-straight win and to remain unbeaten in the Northeast-10 Conference (2-0). Leading the way for New Haven was freshman Valentinna Ferrarini (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) who completed her week with a perfect 6-0 win, earning two more wins on the day.
Ferrarini saw her first win of the day come in doubles play at No. 2 doubles with fell freshman Lucia Placidi (Melbourne, Australia/Distance Education Centre Victoria), shutting out their competition 6-0. She followed that up with a hard fought 6-2, 6-1 win over Irene Garbo at No. 1 singles to complete her 2-0 afternoon.
Alexa Orlando (Frederick, Md./Middletown) and Kacie Banks (Marietta, Ga./Marietta) also finished their day with a pair of victories. The duo picked up their first win at No. 3 doubles with a 6-4 decision over the Hawks. Orlando followed that with a 6-0, 6-2 decision over Abigail Svor at No. 6 singles, while Banks took home a victory at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-2 over her opponent.
The remaining two singles victories came from Gaayatri Shankar (Kochi, India/TocH Public School) at No. 2 singles and Alyssa Rodriguez (Tampa, Fla./HB Plant) at No. 3 singles.
The women's tennis will play one more match before breaking for the ITA Regionals. Next on the docket for the Blue and Gold will be a Tuesday afternoon match at Southern New Hampshire as they look to remain unbeaten in conference play. First serve against the Penmen is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
