ALBANY, N.Y. – After 12 matches competing in tournaments from Florida to Delaware, the University of New Haven Women's Volleyball team opens up their Northeast-10 Conference schedule with a matchup against the Golden Knights of the College of Saint Rose. Picked to finish second in the preseason poll the hunt for a conference crown begins Tuesday in New York.

Series History
In the 16 match history of these two teams, New Haven has dominated the series going 15-1, and are currently on a five match win streak with their only loss being in 2015. In their matchup last season, the Chargers swept the Golden Knights in straight sets at Charger Gymnasium. Macy Brown (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) led all scorers with 12 kills along with 3 aces and 3 blocks. In the 2019 season the Chargers traveled to New York and left with a 3-1 win.

Scouting the Chargers
New Haven is coming off of a dominant 3-0 win over the Greyhounds of Assumption University and sit at 6-6 on the year heading into the matchup with the Golden Knights. During the weekly conference awards, the Chargers were represented once again as Avery Moore (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville Community High School) took home NE-10 rookie of the week following her 12 kills and 8 digs against Assumption. Moore with 106 kills is second on the team behind Macy Brown (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) with 165. Sophia Leon-Tabor (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers) now at 322 assists continues to lead. Moore along with Brown and Leon-Tabor highlight the top and with the return of Emily Barry (Freeport, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) to the lineup has created a dangerous attack for the Chargers and at the perfect time ahead of the conference schedule.

Scouting the Golden Knights
Saint Rose enters the match with the Chargers 6-7 overall and 4-1 at home coming off a loss against Frostburg State. Just like New Haven this is the Golden Knights first conference match of the season after being picked to finish 11th in the preseason poll ahead of Pace and Saint Michaels. The Golden Knights are led by senior outside hitter Jessica Vargas who has totaled 116 kills on the season. Vargas with Julia Cavalcanti, who has 103 kills, lead the offense with Valeria Jorge totaling 400 assists. Defensively it is also Jorge leading the way with 151 digs to round out the leaders for the Golden Knights.

Up Next
Following the matchup with the Golden Knights the Chargers return home for the first time of the year ahead of a matchup against Southern New Hampshire University. It took 13 games but the team will get to play in front of their home crowd for a midday matchup on Saturday September 24 with the match starting at 1 p.m. All post-game coverage, stats and stories are available at NewHavenChargers.com.
