Barnils Scores His Second Goal of Season in Draw with Assumption

WORCESTER, MA. - The University of New Haven men's soccer team settled for a 1-1 draw against the Assumption Greyhounds on Tuesday night, their second straight draw and and third of the year. After falling behind in the 27th minute, the Chargers answered with a goal of their own, just five minutes later. Guillem Barnils (Barcelona, Spain/Escola Pia Nostrasenyora), who was responsible for one of the two team goals prior to today, scored his second goal of the season off an assist from Alexander Gunnarsson (Kopavogur, Iceland/Verzlenarskoli Islands) in the 32nd minute of play.

Following a season-high 21 shots as a team in the draw against AIC on Saturday, the Chargers once again outshot their opponents. Led by Barnils, who tallied five shots, New Haven outshot the G'Hounds 19-10. Although the freshman from Barcelona was the one to find the back of the net, both Barnils and Adam Lindstrom (Orbero, Sweden/Grillska Gymnasiet) recorded a pair of shots on goal. Freshman midfielder Oskar Kvarnback (Stockholm, Sweden/Bromma Gymnasium) and junior defenseman Tyler Jasinski (Wallingford, Conn./Sheehan) attempted four and three shots, respectively

The defense continues to hold opponents in tightly contested contests, yielding only seven goals through seven games. The Chargers's seven goals allowed and 1.00 goal against on average rank sixth in the NE10. Despite their streak of three straight games without a goal came to end, their streak of games decided by one goal extends to seven consecutive games.

Sophomore goalkeeper Themis Kastoris (Gothenburg, Sweden/Kitas Gymnasiet) started between the post for New Haven, allowing one goal while recording two saves. His 24 saves are currently tied for fourth among all goalkeepers in the conference while his .774 save percentage ranks 11th.

New Haven, now 0-4-3, will continue their search for the first win of the season when they travel to Rindge, N.H. on Saturday, Sept. 24. The squad will take on the reigning conference champion Franklin Pierce Ravens at Sodexo Field at 6:00 P.M.
