WEST HAVEN, Conn. –
The New Haven field hockey team took a 4-3 win over the Pace University Setters in their 2022 home opener. Under the lights at DellaCamera Stadium, the Chargers took home the win with four different goal scorers, with the Chargers sophomore class leading the team, as two of them were able to net their first goals of the season.

Kelli Jacobson (North Branford, Conn./North Branford) netted her first goal of the season, on a penalty corner in the 26th minute. An inserter's assist from junior Kat Trammel (Sandy Hook, Conn./Newtown), left Kelli Jacobson (North Branford, Conn./North Branford) with a clear shot from the top of the circle, hitting the backboard hard for the Chargers first goal of the game. From then on the Chargers controlled the pace of the game offensively, netting three more and shutting the Setters down in their own defensive end.

Shortly after her assist, Trammel was able to find the backboard on another penalty corner. Trammel began the play with the insert to the top of the circle for a straight shot from graduate Taylor Geaglone (Enfield, Conn./Enfield) which was redirected by senior Zharria John (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) and finished by Trammel.

Abby Nixon (Wrentham, Mass./King Phillip Regional) after putting up an assist in the Saint Michael's game, scored her first of the season as well. A long ball down into Pace's offensive circle, led goalkeeper Alina Buerger out of net, where she was met by the speed of graduate Sophie Schreck (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand). Schreck collected the ball and was able to pass around Buerger to Nixon, who finished it to the left hand corner, for Schreck's first assist of the season.

The final goal of the night came from senior Zharria John (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway), who was able to make a diving finish off of a push pass from sophomore Johanna Lee. That gives the senior her third goal of the season, putting her in the top spot offensively leading the Chargers in goals. Graduate goalkeeper Keira Integlia (Branford, Conn./Branford) was called on for just two saves on the night.

New Haven will continue its three-game homestand at DellaCamera Stadium as they take on the Ravens of Franklin Pierce on Saturday, October 1st. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start with all of the action available on the Charger Sports Network on NE10 NOW.
