Linnehan's First Career Goal Goes Down as Game-Winner in 3-0 Shutout of STAC

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – For the second time this season, a game-winning goal has come from a player scoring their first collegiate marker, this time around with sophomore midfielder Eilish Linnehan (Uxbridge, Mass./Uxbridge) notching her first as part of a three-goal afternoon for the Blue and Gold in a shutout of Saint Thomas Aquinas.

Linnehan put her squad on top for good late in the 34th minute when she connected with Vickie Fleming (Burlington, Conn./Lewis Mills), who also registered her first points of the season with the assist. The goal from the sophomore middie was the only of the game in the opening half as the Chargers took the 1-0 lead into the intermission. Through the first 45 minutes, the Chargers were outshot by STAC 5-4, however all four of the Chargers shots were on target, forcing the Spartans keeper to make three saves while allowing that first goal from Linnehan.

Just over 15 minutes into the second half, the Chargers began to pull away when graduate student Mackenzie Myers (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) notched her first goal of the season of a double assist from Linnehan and freshman Ashlee Crumrine (Bristol, Conn./Bristol).

New Haven would strike once more, this time in the 75th minute, effectively putting the game out of reach for the Spartans, with Madison Blonde (Rockland, Mass./Rockland) notching her first goal of the season, that coming on an unassisted tally.

The second half was significantly more controlled by New Haven as in addition to the two goals, the Chargers placed two other shots on goal, adding two more saves to the Spartans total.

On the flip side, Chargers transfer keeper faced just two more shots in the second half, collecting the save on both as she closed out the night with five saves, securing her second shutout of the season.

The Chargers will continue their Labor Day weekend on Monday afternoon when they welcome the Bloomfield Bears to West Haven for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff at Kathy Zolad Stadium. Fans who are unable to make the game can catch all the action live on the Charger Sports Network, part of NE10 NOW.
