WEST HAVEN, Conn. – For the third time this season graduate keeper Amanda McQuillan (Meath, Ireland/) and her back line shutdown every attempt by the opposition, as the netminder earned her third shutout of the season, 0-0 against Bloomfield. With the draw, New Haven stands at 2-1-2 on the year heading into conference play next weekend.
The Chargers controlled the tempo throughout the game, leading the Bears 16-5 in shots, with seven of those attempts forcing Bloomfield keeper Mia Phillips to make a stop. On the flip side, graduate keeper Amanda McQuillan (Meath, Ireland/) finished with just two saves, both of which came in the opening half as the Bears mustered just one shot in the second half.
Ten different Chargers got in on the offensive barrage for New Haven with senior Madison Blonde (Rockland, Mass./Rockland) leading all players in the game with four shots. Junior Dakota Cimetta (Coral Springs, Fla./J.P. Taravella) followed with three, while two other players each finished with a pair; freshman Riley Drosopoulos (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) and graduate transfer Halle Palmedo (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset). Both of the attempts from Drosopoulos were marked on goal.
The Chargers will stay home for a third-straight game as they will switch gears to open up Northeast-10 Conference play when they host the American International Yellow Jackets next time the take the field. That conference opener will come under the lights as AIC will venture south on I-91 on Saturday, September 10. Fans who are unable to attend can watch all the action live on the Charger Sports Network, part of NE10 NOW.
