THE LEAD
Followings its largest scoring output of the season, the New Haven women's soccer team will look for a second-straight win on Monday afternoon when they host Bloomfield at Kathy Zolad Stadium. The Labor Day matchup also serves as the Chargers final tune-up before beginning conference play later this week.
SERIES HISTORY VS BLOOMFIELD
In a series that is just three seasons old, the Chargers hold a perfect 2-0 record against Bloomfield. The first meetings against the Bears came in 2019 with New Haven taking a 5-1 victory. After the CoVID shutdown, the two teams met again last season with New Haven taking a 3-2 victory over the Bears.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (2-1-1, 0-0 NE10)
Five goals on the season, five different goal scorers for the New Haven women's soccer team, with the two most important coming from sophomore Eilish Linnehan (Uxbridge, Mass./Uxbridge) and junior Elizabeth Anderson (Lakeville, Mass./Apponequet Regional) as they each scored a game-winning goal. Anderson's goal came in the season opener against Post with Dakota Cimetta (Coral Springs, Fla./J.P. Taravella) joining in the fun that day as well. Linnehan scored the game win in the home opener on Saturday against STAC, joined in the scoring column that afternoon by Mackenzie Myers (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) and Madison Blonde (Rockland, Mass./Rockland). Among all the goal scorers, Linnehan and Myers have added a third point to their tally, each notching an assist. In goal, graduate transfer goalkeeper Amanda McQuillan (Meath, Ireland/) has played every minute between the pipes making 11 saves on the season. McQuillan comes to West Haven from Central Connecticut where she wrapped up her time in New Britain with a 1.09 goals-against-average, eight shutouts and 64 saves last season.
SCOUTING THE BEARS (0-1, 0-0 CACC)
Bloomfield enters the Labor Day matchup looking for its first win, dropping their only other game of the year by way of a 4-1 decision on a neutral field against Roberts Wesleyan. The Bears were also scheduled to play Lincoln University with that game postponed to this coming Thursday. The lone goal scorer for Bloomfield comes in the form of senior midfielder Savannah Smith as she scored unassisted in that season opening loss to Roberts. Junior keeper Mia Phillip played all 90 minutes in the season opener and made eight stops as she faced a barrage of shots. Bloomfield is coming off of a 2021 campaign where they finished with a 3-12 overall record and a 1-10 mark in the CACC.
THE SCHEDULE
The New Haven women's soccer team will play an 18-game schedule in 2022 with half of those games to take place at the friendly confines of Kathy Zolad Stadium.
