THE LEAD
After forcing overtime against No. 9 Adelphi last weekend in Garden City, the No. 10 New Haven Field Hockey team returns to the field on Friday for the first of two weekend matches in Pennsylvania when they open up with Bloomsburg at Steph Pettit Stadium.

SERIES HISTORY VS BLOOMSBURG
New Haven and Bloomsburg met for the first-time last season in the first half of a home-and-home series between the two squads. The Huskies took that opening game in the series by a 1-0 margin, scoring nearly nine minutes into overtime for the sudden victory.

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS (0-1, 0-0 NE10)
The Chargers opened up 2022 with an incredible first game against No. 9 Adelphi, forcing overtime before succumbing to the Panthers. Senior Zharria John (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) scored two of the three Charger goals against Adelphi with both of her goals starting as penalty corners. The final Charger goal came from graduate student Sophie Schreck (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) as she connected with Abby Nixon (Wrentham, Mass./King Phillip Regional) working the goal off an Adelphi turnover. In goal, second year graduate student Keira Integlia (Branford, Conn./Branford) continued her success from last season, finishing the season opener in Garden City with six saves. Overall, New Haven continues its 2022 season after completing its most successful season in program history, closing out 2021 with a 10-10 overall record and a 9-5 record in NE10 action, earning the programs first ever bid to the NE10 Championship and defeating Bentley in the quarterfinal round.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES (1-2, 0-0 PSAC)
Bloomsburg opened up its 2022 season with a plethora of games, three total in the opening weekend, finishing with a 1-2 record. The win came in the opener against Belmont Abbey before dropping decisions against Newberry and Coker. In those three games, the Huskies scored five goals which came from four different players. Leading the way was senior forward Meghan Longenhagen who scored once each against Belmont Abbey and Coker. Senior goalkeeper Abby Schaffer has played every minute in goal for the Huskes, racking up 18 saves, including a season-high eight in the overtime loss to Newberry.

THE SCHEDULE
The New Haven field hockey team will play an 18-game schedule in 2022 with seven of those games to take place at the friendly confines of Ralph F. DellaCamera Stadium. The Chargers will spend nearly the full month of September away from home, playing their first five games on the road before making their home field debut on September 27 against Pace. That home opener is the first of three straight at DellaCamera for the Charger, the last of which is the fifth and final non-conference game against East Stroudsburg. Overall, New Haven will play 13 conference games with the top eight teams following the regular season advancing to the NE10 Championship which will begin on Tuesday, November 15.

IN THE NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT
Following its best season in school history a year ago, the University of New Haven field hockey team continues toĀ turn heads across the country, securing the first-ever national ranking in program history, T-10th in the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II Coaches Poll. The Penn Monto/NFHCA Coaches Poll is a composite ranking of the top-10 teams in the nation, released weekly, beginning with a preseason poll ahead of week one competition. The Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II National Coaches Poll is voted on by NFHCA member coaches and has no bearing on selection to the 2022 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championship.
