THE LEAD
After having its four-game win streak snapped last time out at Southern New Hampshire, the Chargers look to start a new streak this weekend when they host crosstown rival Southern Connecticut State University for the Battle of the Elm City.

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS
In the midst of an 11-game NE10 stretch, New Haven relies heavily on its starting five who are all averaging more than 30 minutes per game, with three of the five averaging in double figures and the five combined providing 86% of the total scoring (861-of-1,005 total points). Leading the team individually is senior transfer Ty Perry (Boston, Mass./Brighton) who is averaging 16.2 ppg, fourth best in the NE10. He is followed closely by both graduate guard Quashawn Lane (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy) and junior Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) at 14.1 and 13.8 ppg, respectively. Rounding out the starting five is Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial High School) and Majur Majak (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./) who average 9.9 and 8.6 ppg, respectively. Among the five, Majak leads the team and the NE10 with an impressive 75.7 percent (53-of-70) shooting from the field, while Lane is also among the best in the league at 54.0 percent (75-of-139). Majak is also the NE10's leading shot blocker with 39 stuffed attempts, which also ranks him seventh nationally in total blocks.

SCOUTING THE OWLS
Winners of their last nine-straight games, the Owls have made a B-line for the top of the NE10 standings, entering Saturday's matchup against New Haven tied with the Chargers for third place nearing the midway point of the league regular season schedule. As a team, the Owls are outscoring their opponents by 7.1 points per game, averaging 73 points, sixth most in the NE10. Individually, it is Ulyen Coleman who leads a trio of players in double figures with his 14.9 points per game average. Following him is Marty Silvera as 12.7 ppg, while he also leads the team with 77 assists and 46 steals, with his 4.8 assists per game average second in the NE10.

SERIES HISTORY vs SCSU

·        In one of the most storied series in program history, New Haven and Southern New Hampshire meet for the 96th time in the history of the two programs.

·        New haven holds a slim 49-46 advantage in the previous 95 games, including a series of 12-straight wins during the late 80's.

·        New Haven opened up the series winning six straight games before allowing the Owls to nearly even the series with five-straight of their own.

·        Last season, New Haven swept the home-and-home series after the Owls did the same the season prior (2019-20).

LAST SEASON VS THE OWLS
Outscoring the Owls by 12.5 points, New Haven swept the home-and-home series against the Owls in 2021-21. Opening up the month of December, New Haven took a nine point win on th Owls home court before scoring a 14 points win on their own home court. Leading the team in the two games was Quashawn Lane (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy) who averaged 20 points in the two outings, shooting an impressive 61 percent against the Owls (14-of-23) and going a perfect 9-of-9 at the free throw line. Among the other returning players, Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) also averaged double figure with 12.0 ppg, while Majur Majak (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./) led New Haven with 21 boards and 13 blocks in the two games.

NEXT TIME OUT
New Haven's stretch of games against the top teams in the Northeast-10 will continue when they head back on the road for a single-game trip to the Bay State to take on the Bentley Falcons, the only remaining one-loss team in NE10 play.
