THE LEAD
After securing the battle of the Elm City last time out against Southern Connecticut, the Chargers will head on the road for one game before returning back home for the weekend. The midweek trip will take them to conference leading Bentley with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m. from the Dana Center.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS
In the midst of an 11-game NE10 stretch, New Haven relies heavily on its starting five who are all averaging more than 30 minutes per game, with three of the five averaging in double figures and the five combined providing 86% of the total scoring (917-of-1,063 total points). Leading the team individually is senior transfer Ty Perry (Boston, Mass./Brighton) who is averaging 15.9 ppg, fifth best in the NE10. He is followed closely by both graduate guard Quashawn Lane (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy) and junior Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) at 14.1 and 13.8 ppg, respectively. Rounding out the starting five is Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial High School) and Majur Majak (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./) who average 9.9 and 8.5 ppg, respectively. Among the five, Majak leads the team and the NE10 with an impressive 71.6 percent (53-of-74) shooting from the field, while Lane is also among the best in the league at 53.0 percent (79-of-149). Majak is also the NE10's leading shot blocker with 48 stuffed attempts, which also ranks him third nationally in total blocks.
SCOUTING THE FALCONS
The No. 10 team in NCAA D2 according to the D2SIDA weekly poll, Bentley has won its last 12 straight games and stands at 9-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference, with that only loss in NE10 play the only loss on the season for Bentley. With its average of 83.3 points per game seven more than any other NE10 team, the Falcons are ranked 30th in all of NCAA Division II in scoring offence, while they are a top-5 team in rebounding margin with their 11.5 per game average. Individually, all five of the Falcons starts are averaging in double figures with junior guard Zach Laput leading all players with her 20.9 point per game average which leads all NE10 players and is 23rd highest in the country.
SERIES HISTORY vs BENTLEY
·       New Haven and Bentley meet for the 35th time in the history of the two programs.
·       Bentley holds a 23-11 advantage in the previous 34 games, including a series of 9-straight top open up the series which began during the 1971-72 season.
·       In recent memory, New Haven had rattled off five straight wins, including a double OT win just prior to the CoVID shutdown.
·       Last season, Bentley earned the victory in the lone meeting which came in mid-January, taking a slim 80-78 decision at the Dana Center.
NEXT TIME OUT
After its short one-game road trip, New Haven returns home for a second-straight weekend on its home court, this time around welcoming the Pace Setters to Charger Gymnasium on Saturday, January 21.
