WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Graduate guard Quashawn Lane (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy) scored six unanswered then provided the pick and pass to Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) who iced the Chargers 56-50 win over Pace with a fastbreak dunk. Lane led all players in the game with 18 points as the Chargers improve to 13-4 overall and 11-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference.

Lane's 18 points was part of a pair in double figures with guard Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial High School) joining him with 11 points. Thomas' late dunk gave him seven for the game, while Tyrone Perry added nine and Majur Majak (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./) finished with eight with the Chargers starting five scoring all but three of the 56 total points.

In addition to his eight points, Majak also pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds as the Chargers finished with a 42-29 advantage on the boards. As A team, New Haven finished the game shooting 34.4 percent, connecting on 21-of-61, with a third of those buckets from outside the three point arc. The Chargers also went 7-of-9 from the free throw line.

New Haven will spend its next three games on the road, beginning with a Tuesday night visit to Garden City to take on the Adelphi Panthers. Tipoff from the Center for Recreation and Sport is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. with all of the action available live on NE10 NOW.

FIRST HALF HIGHLIGHTS

·         New Haven came out of the gates to score the first two buckets of the game, taking an early 4-0 lead. Pace was firing from outside to start the game as they scored its first two buckets from three point range, the second of which knotted the score at six.

·         The Chargers didn't relinquish that early lead through the first eight-plus minutes, with their largest in that stretch five which came on a Majak dunk with 13:03 to play in the half.

·         After tying the game at 11 with another three pointer, the Setters took their first lead of the day on another three pointer that provided a 14-13 lead at the 11:28 mark.

·         The next two buckets of the game provided two more lead changes with the Setters taking an 18-16 lead on a pair of free throws and held onto that lead for the next 11-plus minutes.

·         Pace built its advantage to as much as six in the first half with that coming on a jumper with 2:43 remaining.

·         New Haven answered that deficit by scoring nine of the next 11 points swap leads with 18 seconds remaining when Olawoye drained a three pointer thanks to an assist from Lane.

·         The Setters would manage 1-of-2 at the line with five seconds remaining as the half came to a conclusion with a 32-32 stalemate.

SECOND HALF HIGHLIGHTS

·         Neither team would score for nearly three minutes to open up the second half, with the Setters the first to do so as they scored the first four points of the half, leading to a 36-32 lead with 16:58 to play.

·         New Haven answered by scoring its first points, also scoring four straight with another dunk from Majak knotting the game at 34.

·         The game of runs continued, this time around with Pace scoring five unanswered to take a 41-36  lead with the Chargers responding with their own 5-0 run to again tie the score, this time at 41.

·         Yet again, the Setters would go on a run, this time a 7-0 rally to take a 48-41 lead, with New Haven scoring nine of the next 11 to once again tie the game at 50.

·         The Setters bucket from Marc Dadika that provided the 50-44 Pace lead with 5:21 remaining would prove to be the final field goal and the final points of the night for visitors as the Charger defense kicked into high gear.

·         Pace would go 0-5 form the field, turn the ball over four times and miss the front end of a one-and-one opportunity over the final five-plus minutes of the game.

·         During that same stretch Lane stepped up his game, scoring six-straight of his own that led to a 52-50 lead with 41 seconds remaining.

·         On the very next possession Lane stepped into the passing lane, picked off a pass from Brandon Powell, quickly looked up the floor where Thomas had pulled away from the Setters. Thomas collected the three-quarter court pass from Lane and slammed home the eight-straight point for New Haven, which provided the final 54-50 margin.
