THE LEAD
It's a battle of two one-loss teams in the Northeast-10 as the New Haven men's basketball team makes its first of back-to-back trips to Manchester, NH to take on Saint Anselm on Saturday afternoon. Tip off against the 7-1 (in the NE10) Hawks is set for 3:30 p.m. following the women's game.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS
After a road win at Georgian Court on Wednesday, New Haven embarks on an 11-game NE10 series that begins with back-to-back trips to Manchester, NH over a four-day stretch. With its starting five all averaging more than 30 minutes per game, New Haven is led by a trio of players who average double figures with senior transfer Ty Perry (Boston, Mass./Brighton) leading the team at 16.5 ppg, third best in the NE10. He is followed closely by both graduate guard Quashawn Lane (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy) and junior Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) at 14.3 and 13.8 ppg, respectively. Rounding out the starting five is Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial High School) and Majur Majak (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./) who average 9.8 and 9.0 ppg, respectively. Among the five, Majak leads the team and the NE10 with an impressive 75.8 percent (47-of-62) shooting from the field, while Lane is also among the best in the league at 56.4 percent (66-of-117). Majak is also the NE10's leading shot blocker with 36 stuffed attempts, which also ranks him second nationally in total blocks.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
One of three teams in the Northeat-10 Conference with just one loss in league action, the Hawks are riding an eight-game win streak into the weekend matchup against New Haven. Overall, Saint Anselm holds a 10-3 record, including a 7-1 mark in the NE10 with the lone loss on conference play against Pace when they were held to a season-low 47 points. Despite that season-low output, the Hawks have had three games with 90+ in the scoring column and enter Saturday averaging 76.9 ppg, second most in the conference, while outscoring their opponents by more than four points per game. However, despite outscoring their opponents, their defensive output of 72.8 is 10th worst in the NE10 as only three schools allow their opponents to score more on average than them. Individually, four players are averaging in double figures with Tyler Arbuckle leading all scorers at 16.8 ppg, followed closely by Miles Tention at 15.6 ppg. Combined, the pair has scored more than 40% of the Hawks total points.
SERIES HISTORY vs SAINT ANSELM
·        New Haven and Saint Anselm meet for the 31st time in the history of the two programs.
·        Saint Anselm holds an 20-10 advantage in the previous 30 games, including two of three meetings last season
·        Saint Anselm opened up the series winning the first three meetings and extended that to 10 of the first 14 matchups.
·        Last season, the Chargers and Hawks met three times with Saint Anselm winning the regular season meeting and the NE10 quarterfinal matchup (in OT), while the Chargers took the victory in the opening round of the NCAA East Regional.
MAJUR BLOCK PARTY
The Chargers' big man transformed the paint into a restricted area last season, swatting away a conference-high 85 shots on his way to NE10 Defensive Player of the Year. After setting the New Haven single-season record for blocked shots, Majak hasn't lost a step, tallying 36 blocks in the 12 games this season. Majak swatted a season-high eight blocks in the 25 point win over Molly just prior to the New Year. In his two short seasons at UNH, Majak currently has 121 blocks which is seventh most in school history. With seven more, he will move up two spots to fifth all-time.
