Women's Tennis Falls to Queens College 6-1

Flushing, N.Y- The Chargers tennis team headed down to New York to take on Queens College, where they took their second loss of the season with a 6-1, final on the afternoon. Karim Carreras (Asuncion, Paraguay/Colegio Bautista de Villa Morra) picking up another match win for New Haven's only point.

No. 2 doubles pair Risako Umekuni (Saitama, Japan/Shumei Eiko) and Lucia Placidi (Melbourne, Australia/Distance Education Centre Victoria) would pick up the only win in the doubles matches. That match being the first to finish set the tone for the Chargers with a 6-3 match score, for the first win on either side. Valentinna Ferrarini (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) and Karim Carreras (Asuncion, Paraguay/Colegio Bautista de Villa Morra) in the No. 1 doubles spot would force a tie breaker after their first set against Queens opponents Saga Berggren and Maja Makal but would come up short with a tiebreaker score of 7-5 Queens.  With the wins even, Queens would take the third match with a score 6-3, to secure the doubles point.

Karim Carreras (Asuncion, Paraguay/Colegio Bautista de Villa Morra) would lead the way for the Chargers, taking on Maja Makal from Queens College, forcing a three-set match before taking the win. First set favored Carreras with a 6-4 score, but she would fall in the second with a score of 4-6. Forcing the set to a third match, Carreras would fight for the win, taking the match with a 10-7 third set score.

Alexa Orlando (/) would also force her match into a third set, falling in the first, but coming back in the second set, 6-2. With a fighting effort Orlando would keep herself in the third set, until Queens would take it away with a score of 10-3.

The Chargers now fall to 6-2 on the season, holding their 6-1 record in conference play. They will return to action as they welcome the Yellowjackets of American International to their home courts in West Haven on Sunday, October 15th. That match is set to start at 1:00 p.m.
