WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Looking to bounce back at home, the University of New Haven Women's soccer team hosted the Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) Penmen for a Saturday afternoon match that stayed dry and saw the sun break out a few points during the match.
The Chargers opened up with pressuring the Penmen playing direct and defending well to lock SNHU into their own half of the field early on. The Penmen were able to break out and after ten minutes of high pressure from Macy Litalien (/) and Vickie Fleming (Burlington, Conn./Lewis Mills), the Penmen broke through finding the back of the net on a direct ball. The direct ball would find the Penmen a pair of goals following their first as they went into the half. Out of the break head coach Laura Duncan made a few changes to her eleven and in the 71 minute, substitute Emma Mitchell (Edinburgh, Scotland/Liberton) connected with Janayah Body (West Hartford, Conn./Lawrence Academy) at the top of the eighteen box who fired a shot that snuck under the cross bar beating SNHU's keeper and putting New Haven on the board. That would be the final goal of the match as the Penmen would hold on to win 3-1 in the match. Caitlin Daley (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) finished with a pair of saves as Body netted her first career goal for the Chargers in the match.
With two matches to go in the season the Chargers first travel to New Hampshire to take on the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University. The Chargers and Ravens square off at Sodexo Field on Tuesday October 24 with kickoff scheduled for 4:00 p.m. All updates, schedules, and post-game recaps for the team will be available at Newhavenchargers.com.
