WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Coming off their big win over the Falcons of Bentley on Friday night, the University of New Haven Women's Volleyball team returned to the court to take on another feathered opponent as they welcomed the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University for a Saturday night matchup as they looked to remain perfect in conference play.
The blue and gold opened up hot scoring the first three points of the opening set as Grace Juergens (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) and Kylie Reynolds-Martin (/) each picked up a kill to get on the board. Franklin Pierce continued to battle and never made it easy for New Haven as they continued to close the scoring gap tying and forcing New Haven to use a timeout. Down the stretch, New Haven closed out the et on a 7-3 run where Juergens picked up and kill and the defense stepped up and put the pressure on the Ravens to take the opening set 25-20. In the second set after scoring the first point the blue and gold found themselves behind early. The Chargers trading points battled back and put together a 4-0 run that gave them the lead and they began to shift the momentum in their favor. With momentum building the Chargers poured it on running a 13-3 run where Katherine Rank (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa) and Macy Brown (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) each had three kills taking the second set 25-12. Opening the third set with the first three point New Haven had to battle early in the third set as they looked to win in straight sets. Franklin Pierce battled with New Haven early the Chargers were able to rally together points and take a commanding lead over the Ravens and never look back. Late in the set, with the lead in control Amanda Tokam (Sterling, Va./Independence) got into the set and made the most of it registering two kills with her second being the winning kill of the set and match for New Haven who won 25-15 and won the match in straight sets 3-0. Macy Brown (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac), Grace Juergens (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) and Peyton Mast (Park Hills, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) each had seven kills as Michelle Henwood (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) registered 22 assists and Rilee Jessee (Edinburgh, Ind,/Columbus East) led the way with 19 digs.
With a pair of big wins, New Haven now returns to the road as they take on a dangerous Adelphi team that sits third in the conference and looking to battle with New Haven. The Chargers and Panthers tip off on Halloween for a spooky match as the blue and gold look to stay undefeated and remain in the drivers seat heading into the postseason.
