New Haven Defeats Saint Anselm 6-1

West Haven, C.T- the New Haven tennis team took home their sixth win of the season against the Hawks of Saint Anslem. Karim Carreras (Asuncion, Paraguay/Colegio Bautista de Villa Morra) and Risako Umekuni (Saitama, Japan/Shumei Eiko) dominating the singles matches, as well as strong efforts in the doubles section, brought home the win for the Chargers. With that the Chargers now advance to 6-1 in both overall and conference play and are now standing at the No.2 spot in Northeast-10 Conference rankings.

The Chargers took three straight matches in doubles play to win the point, going into singles play. Valentinna Ferrarini (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) and Karim Carreras (Asuncion, Paraguay/Colegio Bautista de Villa Morra) picked up their seventh doubles win of the season with a 6-3 match score, while No. 2 doubles pair Risako Umekuni (Saitama, Japan/Shumei Eiko) and Lucia Placidi (Melbourne, Australia/Distance Education Centre Victoria) picked up their sixth, 6-2. Alexa Orlando (Frederick, Md./Middletown) and Madi Mabrito (Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas/Samuel V. Champion) in the No. 3 doubles spots took home their third doubles win of the season.

New Haven would continue their domination as they took 5 out of 6 singles matches to grab five more points and pushing them above the Hawks of Saint Anselm. Karim Carreras (Asuncion, Paraguay/Colegio Bautista de Villa Morra) and Risako Umekuni (Saitama, Japan/Shumei Eiko) both picking up 6-0, 6-0 match wins. Alyssa Rodriquez and Lucia Placidi (Melbourne, Australia/Distance Education Centre Victoria) both picking up 6-1, 6-1 match wins and Alexa Orlando (Frederick, Md./Middletown) taking a 6-3, 6-0 match win.

Looking to the future, the Chargers will head back on the road as they take a break from conference opponents to take on the Knights of Queens College. That match is set to take place on Thursday, October 12th with a start time of 1:00 p.m.
