BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – For the second time this season, freshman Jah'Likai King (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) led New Haven in the scoring column, putting up a team-high 18 points as the New Haven men's basketball (1-2) team dropped a 66-54 road decision at Bloomfield on Wednesday night.
King was the lone Charger to finish in double figures with senior Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) next up in the scoring column with 10 points, followed by graduate transfer Tyler Saint-Furcy (Inwood, N.Y./Lawrence Woodmere Academy) who finished with seven points.
King's team-high 18 points came on 5-of-13 from the field while he took advantage of his opportunities at the free throw line where he went 6-of-8 to lead the Chargers. In addition, he added three assists, which also led the team.
As a team, New Haven finished 19-of-52 from the field for 36.5 percent, with five of those field goals coming from outside the arc. The Chargers did take advantage at the free throw line where they converted 11 of the 16 (68.8%) trips they were presented at the line.
The Chargers also dropped the battle of the boards with Bloomfield hauling in 47 boards and New Haven pulling down 26, led by Saint-Furcy who finished with six. Sean Braithwaite (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) followed him with four.
The next time the Chargers take the court they will be wrapping up a four-game season-opening road trip and also opening their 22 game Northeast-10 Conference slate with a trip to the Dana Center in Waltham, Mass. to take on the Bentley Falcons.
