Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Deshaies Nets 1,000th Career Point as Women’s Basketball Falls to Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – Graduate post player Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) completed her third double double to lead the New Haven women's basketball team (2-1, 0-1 NE10) as it dropped its first game of the season 59-48 at the hands of the Bentley Falcons.

The highlight of the night for Deshaies came with 3:20 left before the halftime break when the Syracuse, N.Y. native hit her third field goal of the game which provided her seventh point of the game and welcomed her to the 1,000 point club. Overall, Deshaies is the 22nd player to reach the plateau as a Charger.

Deshaies was one of two Chargers to finish in double figures with her 17 points coming on 8-of-17 from the field, adding that to 11 rebounds while adding three blocks. Joining her in double figures transfer guard Nayeli Dowding (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) who finished with 11 points in her first start in a New Haven uniform. Overall, Dowding finished the night shooting 5-of-11 from the field while adding six rebounds.

Also among the leading scorers was sophomore Lindsay Hogan (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) who finished with eight points and senior Gabrielle Stickle (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) who added a half dozen. As a team, New Haven finished the game shooting 36.7 percent from the field, connecting on 22-of-60, with just two of those buckets coming from outside the three point arc. The Chargers also managed just four trips to the free throw line, converting half of them.

After taking the weekend to recover, New Haven will return to the court just before the Thanksgiving holiday when they open up the home portion of their schedule with a visit from the Pace Setters on Tuesday, November 21. Opening tip off in the NE10 battle is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. as the front end of a doubleheader with the men's team. All of the action from the Jeffery P. Hazell Athletic Center can be seen live on NE10Now.tv.
