WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Senior point guard Gabrielle Stickle (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) completed her first double figure game of the season with 11 points to lead the New Haven women's basketball team (2-2, 0-2) in its home opener as the Chargers dropped a 46-43 decision to the visiting Pace on Tuesday night at Charger Gym.
Stickle's 11 points led all Chargers as the only player in double figures for the Blue and Gold. Following Stickle in the scoring column was junior Charlotte Bassett (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) who came off the bench for nine points while sophomore Lindsay Hogan (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) finished with eight points.
As a team, New Haven finished the night shooting 36.7 percent from the field, connecting on 18-of-49 from the field, with four of the buckets from outside the three point arc. The Chargers did win the battle of the boards with a 35-33 margin in their favor, led by Hogan who closed out the game with nine boards followed by graduate post Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) who pulled down seven.
New Haven will return to the court in just over a week after enjoying a break from the Thanksgiving Holiday as they head to Worcester to take on the Assumption Greyhounds on Wednesday, November 29. The road game at Laska Gymnasium is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. as the front end of a doubleheader with the men's team.
