Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Comes Up Short at No. 11 Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. – Facing the No. 11 team in the country it would be a tall order for the New Haven women's basketball team (2-3, 0-3 NE10) as they dropped a 70-41 decision to the Assumption Greyhounds on Wednesday night at Laska Gymnasium.

Leading the Chargers on the evening was sophomore Lindsay Hogan (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) who finished with 13 points, the only player in double figures for New Haven. She would close out the night shooting 5-of-13 from the field, with three of those buckets coming from outside the three point arc. In addition she added three assists and a pair of rebounds.

Joining her in leading the scoring efforts were a pair of players off the bench as junior transfer Nayeli Dowding (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) and freshman Eveani Okwusa finished with eight and six points, respectively. Both finished with three buckets on the night, with Dowding leading the duo going 3-of-6 with one from outside the arc and adding 1-of-2 at the free throw line.

As a team, New Haven finished the night shooting 30 percent overall, connecting on 18-of-60 field goal attempts, with four of those from long range. The Chargers did win the battle of the boards with a slight 34-33 advantage, led by graduate post player Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) who was finished with a dozen rebounds which she added to six points. Dowding followed her with five rebounds, as seven of the nine Chargers who saw time pulled down at least one rebound.

New Haven will open up the second month of the regular season when they next take the court, opening up a four-game homestand with a visit from the Southern New Hampshire Penmen on Saturday, December 2. Opening tip in the NE10 battle is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
