Three Finish in Double Figures as Men's Basketball Falls on the Road at Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. – The New Haven men's basketball team (1-6, 0-3 NE10) came up just short in its quest for a first Northeat-10 Conference victory on the year, dropping a 69-65 decision on the road at Assumption on Wednesday night at Laska Gymnasium.

The Chargers offense was led by a trio of players who finished in double figures on the night with senior Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) leading the pack with 17 points. Thomas finished the night shooting 7-of-12 from the field, which included a trio of three point field goals while he also pulled down six boards, dished out a pair of assists and racked up one steal.

Joining him in leading in the scoring column was Tyler Saint-Furcy (Inwood, N.Y./Lawrence Woodmere Academy) who came off the bench to score a baker's dozen 13, while Keith Warren (Rochester, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) chipped in 10 in his first start of the season. Of all three leading scores, Saint-Furcy led the way and led the team as a whole, connecting on 5-of-6 from the field, including converting his one attempt from outside the arc and finishing 2-of-2 at the free throw line.

Also among the highlights on the night was JoJo LIngisi-Ombongo who came off the bench to dish out a game-best nine assists in 28 minutes of work. He added to that four rebounds. His nine assists were part of 17 total which came on the 24 field goals made by the Chargers. Overall, New Haven shot 41.4 percent for the game with the 24 field goals coming on 58 attempts. Nine of those field goals came from three point range, while the Chargers were also 8-of-9 at the free throw line.

The Chargers did take the battle of the boards in their favor, finishing with a 34-28 rebounding advantage. All 10 of the Chargers who saw the floor in Worcester contributed to that total, led by Joshua Hopson (Jersey City, N.J./MacDuffie School) for the second straight game as he pulled down seven boards which he added to six points.

When the Chargers next take the court, they will do so opening up the second month of the regular season and make their return to West Haven for just the second time this season when they host the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday, December 2. Opening tip in the NE10 battle is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. following the women's game.
