WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Junior guard Charlotte Bassett (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) came off the bench to score a career-high 12, part of two players in double figures as the New Haven women's basketball team dropped a 65-60 decision to the visiting Southern New Hampshire Penmen on Saturday at the Jeffery P. Hazell Athletic Center.
Joining Bassett with double figures was sophomore Lindsay Hogan (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) who finished with a team-high 19 points, while all eight players who saw time in the game finished with at least a field goal. Among the two leaders, Bassett led the duo shooting 5-of-7 from the field, including a perfect 2-of-2 from beyond the three point arc. She also grabbed five boards, dished one assist and picked off two steals.
Hogan also shot well on the day as she connected on 6-of-10 from the field and was also perfect from beyond the arc in her three attempts, while also going perfect at the free throw line on 4-of-4 attempts. As a team, New Haven finished the game shooting 36.8 percent from the field, making 21-of-57 attempts, with seven of those coming from outside the three point arc. The Chargers also capitalized at the free throw line where they were 11-of-14.
New Haven did come out on the upper end of the battle of the boards with a 41-23 advantage, including 18 of those coming on the offensive glass. The Chargers did manage 12 second chance points off of their 18 offensive boards. Leading the way on the boards for the home team was Hogan who finished with eight, while Deshaies followed with five.
