Seven Run Inning Leads Chargers Past Molloy 9-2

Myrtle Beach, S.C – A hot third inning played a key role in boosting the Chargers over the Molloy Lions 9-2 in a single game Sunday morning. The Chargers now leave their first Myrtle Beach trip at an even .500 record.

Freshman Randy Ramnarace (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) was named the started for the first time this season, wasting no time getting through the first inning, retiring the side with two strikeouts.

New Haven's offense kicked off in the third inning, starting with a RBI single from graduate Josh Lester (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague) to center field, scoring one. The Chargers would pick up their lead with a grand slam to left field, from Kenneth Franquiz (Bellmore. N.Y./Mepham), giving New Haven the five-run lead. Freshman Matt McIntire (Williamston, N.J./Williamstown) would then his first hit of the game later in the third, on a line drive to center field, driving in two more.

Down seven, Molloy would find a chance to cut the deficit after a leadoff walk started the bottom of the third. Ramnarace remained strong on the mound finding another strikeout and forcing a fly out to third before the Lions would find two runs on a line drive single to center field.

Not satisfied with the lead, the Chargers finished off their offensive run with an RBI double to left from Tyler Wells (Danville, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy) and yet another RBI single for Josh Lester (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague). Giving the Chargers a 9-2 lead going into the bottom of the sixth.

Randy Ramnarace (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) would be the winning pitcher for the Chargers, surrendering two runs on one hit over five innings, striking out seven. It was not until the bottom of the sixth that freshman Tyler Sausville (Schenectady, N.Y./Colonie Central) would come in to relieve Ramnarace, recording two back-to-back 1-2-3 innings recording four strikeouts over two innings. Sausville would go out to close the game with six strikeouts and one hit over four innings.

For the game, New Haven totaled ten hits, leading the way was Kenneth Franquiz (Bellmore. N.Y./Mepham) going two for four at the plate, with four RBIs. Following Franquiz was freshman Matt McIntire (Williamston, N.J./Williamstown) and graduate Josh Lester (Amityville, N.Y./Copiague) both finding multiple hits on the morning and 2 RBIs a piece.
