THE LEAD
Time to get back in the win column when we welcome AIC to town on Saturday afternoon with a pregame ceremony on tap to honor our seniors in their final weekend home game at Charger Gym. Opening tip in the NE10 battle is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

SCOUTING THE CHARGERS
In the midst of an 11-game NE10 stretch, New Haven relies heavily on its starting five who are all averaging more than 30 minutes per game, with three of the five averaging in double figures and the five combined providing 86% of the total scoring (1,182-of-1,378 total points). Leading the team individually is senior transfer Ty Perry (Boston, Mass./Brighton) who is averaging 15.4 ppg, seventh best in the NE10. On his heals is graduate guard Quashawn Lane (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy) and junior Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) at 15.2 and 12.6 ppg, respectively. Rounding out the starting five is Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial High School) and Majur Majak (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./) who average 9.0 and 7.7 ppg, respectively. Among the five, Majak leads the team and the NE10 with an impressive 64.6 percent (64-of-99) shooting from the field, while Lane is also among the best in the league at 54.1 percent (112-of-207). Majak is also the NE10's leading shot blocker with 60 stuffed attempts, which also ranks him fourth nationally in total blocks.

SCOUTING THE YELLOW JACKETS
Also looking to get back in the win column, the Yellow Jackets have a single victory among their last 10 games, with that lone win coming at home against Saint Michael's. With their overall record of 5-17 and 3-11 mark in conference play, the Yellow Jackets look to close out the regular season strong and move up the standings heading into the NE10 Championship at the end of the month. As a team, AIC is averaging a conference low 65.4 points per game and are being out scored by just under eight points per outing. Individually, Jack Hall leads three Yellow Jackets who average in double figures with his average of 13.2, splitting his scoring evenly with 61 three pointers among his 101 total field goals. Joining him in leading the scoring efforts is Justice Ellison (12.8 ppg) and Jalen Jordan (10.0 ppg).

SERIES HISTORY vs THE YELLOW JACKETS

·         New Haven and American International meet for the 63rd time in the history of the two programs.

·         One of the most evenly contested series for the Chargers, New Haven holds a slight 32-30 advantage in the previous 62 games.

·         The win earlier this year give the Chargers nine wins in the last 10 games after splitting the home-and-home series last year.

EARLIER THIS SEASON VS AIC
The Chargers rebounded from a hard fought loss to No. 3 Indiana by winning their third of five-straight NE10 games with an impressive 81-54 decision over AIC just after Thanksgiving. Shooting 50% or better for the third time in the first five games of the season, New Haven finished with a 53.7 percent average, connecting on 29-of-54 from the field including 10 from outside the three point arc. They also added 13 points at the free throw line, in 17 attempts. In a rather evenly balanced scoring attack, Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) led New Haven with 16 points, with all five of his field goals outside the three point arc. Ty Perry (Boston, Mass./Brighton) and Quashawn Lane (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy) each finished with 14, while Justin Hendrick (Valley Stream, N.Y./St. Francis) topped off the leading scorers with a dozen off the bench. All of Hendrick's field goals also came from outside the arc.

NEXT TIME OUT
The Chargers will cap off a three-game homestand in the friendly confines of Charger Gymnasium with a midweek visit from the Saint Michael's Purple Knights on Tuesday night before heading on the road for a weekend match-up in Worcester. Tip off from Charger Gym in the battle of Chargers and Purple Knights is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. with all of the action available live on the Charger Sports Network on NE10 NOW.
