Have Yourself a Day! Perry’s Career High Sends Chargers to East Region Semifinal

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior transfer Ty Perry (Boston, Mass./Brighton) had the hot hand of the night for the New Haven men's basketball team as he sank nine three pointers in 13 attempts, finishing the night with 30 points to lead the Chargers to an 83-57 win over fifth seeded Pace to advance to the NCAA Division II East Region semifinal. With the win, the Chargers improve to 21-10 on the season and will take on the eighth seeded Caldwell Cougars on Sunday night with tip set for 7:30 p.m. Caldwell knocked off top seed and host Saint Anselm on Saturday to advance to the semifinal round.

Perry's 30 points led four Chargers who finished in double figures, the remaining three also part of New Haven's starting five. The nine three pointers from Perry were part of 17 total from the Chargers, a season high and the most for the Chargers since January of 2020. The 17 three pointers came on 32 attempts from outside the arc for a 53.1 percent effort.

Joining Perry in leading the Chargers scoring was graduate guard Quashawn Lane (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy) and junior Davontrey Thoms who each finished with a dozen, while senior center Majur Majak (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./) chipped in with 11. The 12 points from Thomas all came from outside the three point arc, while Majak finished the night shooting 4-og-5 from the field and was a perfect 3-of-3 at the free throw line.

Majak completed a double double, his eighth of the season, hauling in a game-high 15 boards, part of 42 total for the Blue and Gold who outrebounded the Setters 42-25. As a team, the Chargers also racked up 17 assists, the 20th game of the year with double figure assists. Individually it was the point guard Lane and freshman guard Justin Hendrick (Valley Stream, N.Y./St. Francis) who each dished out seven assists that led the way.

Overall for the game, New Haven shot 47.2 percent from the field, connecting on 25-of-53 field goal attempts, with just eight of those field goals coming inside of the three point arc. The Chargers also added 16 points at the free throw line, with those coming on 18 attempts for an 88.9 percent average.
