BOCA RATON, Fla. – Facing a ranked opponent for the first time this season, the New Haven women's lacrosse team dropped its first decision of the season, a three goal loss to No. 14/15 Lynn University, 12-9. With the loss, New Haven falls to 3-1 on the season and remains at 1-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference.
Leading five goal scoring on the afternoon for the Chargers was senior attack Camryn Antler who finished with three goals, her first time on the season recording a hat trick. Overall, she was one of three New Haven players who finished with multiple goals on the day, joined by graduate transfer Savannah Ernst (American Fork, Utah/American Fork) and sophomore Gianna Caprioli (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Franklin Delano Roosevelt) who each scored twice. Caprioli also added an assist to her stat line for three points total.
Rounding out the scoring for the Chargers was freshman Summer Castiglione (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) and junior Ivanna Hernandez (Bay Shore, N.Y./Brentwood) who each tallied one goal. Among the Chargers nine goals, four originated at the free position arc with both of Caprioli's goals coming on free position attempts and two of the three goals from Antler coming in the same fashion.
As a team, New Haven finished with 23 total shots, marking nine on goal, forcing the Lynn goalkeepers to collecte 10 total saves, three from Callista Elica and eight from Ciara Moorman. On the opposite end of the field, Charger keeper Gabby Buscemi (East Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) finished with 11 saves between the pipes, her third game of the season with double figure stops.
The Chargers will close out their trip to Florida with one final game which will come on Friday, March 17 when the Blue and Gold faces a second-straight ranked opponent, this time No. 6/9 Rollins. Opening draw from Barker Family Stadium in Winter Park, Fla. is set for 7:30 p.m.
