Ernst Nets Hat Trick as Chargers Drop OT Thriller to Rollins

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Graduate transfer attack Savanna Ernst led the Chargers with three goals, while junior goalkeeper Gabby Buscemi (East Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) racked up nine saves to lead the New Haven women's lacrosse team in an 11-10 overtime loss to No. 6/9 Rollins on Friday night in the Sunshine State.

Ernst three goals was part of six different players who found the back of the cage for the Blue and Gold, with two other Chargers finishing with a multi-goal game, freshman Marielle Colalillo (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) and junior Ivanna Hernandez (Bay Shore, N.Y./Brentwood) who each finished with a pair.

Rounding out the Chargers goal scorers was sophomores Gianna Caprioli (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Franklin Delano Roosevelt) and Raegan Bailey (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) and freshman Summer Castiglione (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) who all scored once. Bailey also added an assist to her credit, the only of the game for New Haven. Overall, the Chargers 10 goals came on 18 total shots, with five of the 10 goals coming on free position attempts.  

Buscemi's nine saves came while facing 24 total shots from the Tars. New Haven closed out the game with a 14-10 advantage on the draw, with Ernst and Bailey each leading the way with five total draw controls.

After wrapping up its Spring Break trip this evening against Rollins, the Chargers will return to the Northeast where they will return to Northeast-10 Conference play on Wednesday, March 22 when they head to Garden City, N.Y. for a date with the Adelphi Panthers. Opening draw from Motamed Field is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
