West Haven, C.T- The New Haven women's tennis team took their first defeat of the spring season this afternoon. Coming off a big win against Holy Cross for their first game of the spring season, the Chargers fell to the Bobcats 7-0 on Friday afternoon.
The biggest fight of the day for the Chargers came from the double pair of Valentinna Ferrarini (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) and Karim Carreras (Asuncion, Paraguay/Colegio Bautista de Villa Morra). The doubles pair ended up outscoring the visiting team 7-5 in the first doubles match of the afternoon, however the Bobcats would find themselves taking the doubles point with their wins in the last two doubles matches.
The Bobcats would end up sweeping all the singles, but Madi Mabrito (Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas/Samuel V. Champion) in the sixth singles set would put up the biggest fight. After taking the first round 7-5, the score would reverse and Quinnipiac would take the second round, forcing a third-round tiebreaker, where Mabrito would fall short by two points.
The Chargers will return to action on Friday, March 31st when they travel to Dudley, Massachusetts to take on the Bison of Nichols College. Action will get underway at 3:00 p.m.
