Tennis Takes Home 6-1 Win Against Nichols

Dudley, M.A.- Coming off a loss against fellow Connecticut neighbor Quinnipiac, the Chargers took a ride up to Nichols College to face off on a Friday afternoon match against the Bison. The Chargers defeated Nichols College 6-1, improving to 10-6 on the year, and 2-1 in their spring season. 

Among the highlights of the day was senior Alexa Orlando (Frederick, Md./Middletown), who earned two victories, taking both her double and single decisions. Karim Carreras (Asuncion, Paraguay/Colegio Bautista de Villa Morra) would also earn herself a pair of victories, one from her doubles match with partner Valentinna Ferrarini (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) and taking a two round singles match.

Doubles pair Karim Carreras (Asuncion, Paraguay/Colegio Bautista de Villa Morra) and Valentinna Ferrarini (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) opened up the afternoon with a hard-fought double victory to set the tone for the match against the Bison. The Chargers swept the double matches, going 3-0 to earn the point. Doubles pair Alexa Orlando (Frederick, Md./Middletown) and Madi Mabrito (Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas/Samuel V. Champion) finishing second to secure the point for the Chargers, Alyssa Rodriguez (Tampa, Fla./HB Plant) and partner Lucia Placido finishing off with a close 7-6 match to sweep the doubles.

In singles matches the Chargers only took one loss on the afternoon. Alexa Orlando (Frederick, Md./Middletown) finishing first for the Chargers, securing a point after dominating her opponent 6-0, 6-1.

The last singles point on the afternoon would come from a three-round match from Kacie Banks (Marietta, Ga./Marietta). Taking the first round 6-2, Nichols player Johanna Schroeder would come back to take the next match. Going into the tiebreaker, Banks would put up a 10-8 match to secure the win and grab herself a point on the afternoon.

UP NEXT: 
The women's tennis team will return to action tomorrow Sunday, April 2nd, to take on their third Division I opponent this Spring, welcoming Providence College to their home courts. First serve against the Friars is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
