Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Ernst and Bailey Combine for Nine Goals as Chargers take 12-7 Decision Over Saint Rose

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – After scoring the first five goals of the game, the New Haven women's lacrosse team never looked back as they went wire-to-wire for a 12-7 home win over the visiting Saint Rose Golden Knights to pick up their second NE10 victory of the season. With the win, New Haven improves to 4-3 on the season and 2-1 in the NE10, while also remaining a perfect 2-0 on their home turf.

The majority of the Chargers scoring came from two different players with graduate transfer Savannah Ernst (American Fork, Utah/American Fork) and sophomore attack Raegan Bailey (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) combining for nine of the 12 goals and the remaining three from different players. Ernst led all Chargers with five of the tallies, with those coming on her only shots of the game as she finished a perfect 1.000 in shot attempts.

Bailey followed her with four goals, with half of her goals coming on free position attempts. Gianna Caprioli (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Franklin Delano Roosevelt), Marielle Colalillo (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) and Ivanna Hernandez (Bay Shore, N.Y./Brentwood) all added a single goal on the day, with Caprioli's coming on a free position attempt.

As a team, New Haven finished the rainy, cold afternoon game with 28 total shots, 19 of which were marked on goal, which forced the Golden Knights goalkeeper Dorothy Gaffney to make seven saves. Her counterpart from New Haven, Gabby Buscemi (East Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford), also finished with seven saves, facing 17 total shots, 14 of which were marked on goal.

New Haven also forced the Golden Knights into 24 turnovers, recording 11 caused turnovers with Caprioli leading the way with three. She also added four draw controls, while Bailey and Hernandez each finished with a pair of controls.

New Haven will play a second-straight home game with their next time on the field coming Wednesday afternoon when they host the Le Moyne Dolphins for an afternoon battle. Opening draw in the NE10 contest is set for 3:00 p.m. at Kathy Zolad Stadium.
