INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. –
For the 10th time in program history, the University of New Haven men's basketball team will play for a national championship earning the fourth seed in the upcoming NCAA Division II East Region Championship. The Saint Anselm Hawks were selected as the No. 1 seed and will host the eight-team regional tournament.

As the four seed, the Chargers will face the fifth-seeded Pace Setters in the quarterfinals on Saturday, March 11. Overall, New Haven returns to the NCAA Division II Championship for the fifth time under head coach Ted Hotaling and the third time in the last four seasons.

The Chargers advance to the national tournament with a 20-10 overall record, all of which came against East region competition. Leading the Blue and Gold into the regional championship is graduate guard Quashawn Lane (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Catholic Academy), a First Team All-Conference selection who is averaging 15.0 points per game, one of three players averaging double figures. In addition to his scoring, Lane also leads the Chargers with 115 assists and 44 steals.

Joining Lane in leading the Chargers is senior transfer guard Ty Perry (Boston, Mass./Brighton), a third-team all-conference selection, who averages 14.9 points per game, scoring 20+ in eight games. Rounding out the leaders is junior Davontrey Thomas (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie) who leads the team with 75 three pointers, averaging 12.8 points per game.

Much of the Chargers success has come defensively where they have held opponents to 62.2 percent scoring which leads all Northeast-10 Conference teams and is currently 11th lowest in all of NCAA Division II. In addition, the Chargers 39.3 percent field goal defense is fourth lowest in the nation, while they are the number one team in all of NCAA Division II in fouls per game which stands at just 10.7 for the season.

The quarterfinal winner between New Haven (20-10) and Pace (20-10) will meet the winner of No. 1 seed Saint Anselm (22-7) and No. 8 seed Caldwell (21-9) in the East Region semifinal round on Sunday, March 12. The region championship game will take place on Tuesday, March 14.

The other half of the bracket features second seeded Bentley (21-6) against seventh seeded Dominican (N.Y.) (21-8) and third seeded Southern New Hampshire (20-8) versus sixth seeded Saint Thomas Aquinas (26-4).

Additional information, including game times, for the East Region Championship will be posted on NewHavenChargers.com as it becomes available.
