Match Recap: Women's Tennis | | Morgan McCarty

Women’s Tennis Sweeps American International 7-0

West Haven, C.T- The Chargers tennis team was on fire this afternoon, collecting all of the points in today's match against the Yellowjackets of American International College. With the win, the blue and gold improve to 12-7 overall, 6-3 in NE10 conference play.

Starting off with a win by forfeit, the Chargers just needed to win one more match in the doubles sets to win the point. The No. 1 doubles pair, Valentinna Ferrarini (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) and Karim Carreras (Asuncion, Paraguay/Colegio Bautista de Villa Morra) took their match 6-1. Following were the No. 2 doubles pair Alexa Orlando (Frederick, Md./Middletown) and Madi Mabrito (Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas/Samuel V. Champion), who would secure all of the doubles play with a 6-2 win in their set.

In victory, Ferrarini and Carreras both picked up two points in the win, each earning a pair of victories, one as a doubles pair and one in singles action. The duo combined at No.1 doubles to score a 6-1 win over the competition. Ferrarini taking her singles match 6-4, 6-1, and Carreras taking her match in a 6-3, 6-0 decision.

The remaining two singles victories on the day was Katherine MacPhail (Park City, Utah/Judge Memorial Catholic) and Anna Katz (Miami, Fla./Laurel Springs), due to a lack of opposing players. Anna Katz (Miami, Fla./Laurel Springs) earned a straight set win at No. 4 singles by scores of 6-0, 6-0. MacPhail saw her win come at fourth singles by scores 6-2, 7-6.

UP NEXT: 
The women's tennis team will return to action on Friday, April 14th when they take on the Wildcats of Wilmington. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m.
