WEST HAVEN, Conn. – In a battle of the Chargers, the University of New Haven Women's soccer team welcomed the Dominican University Chargers to Kathy Zolad stadium for a evening matchup as New Haven looked to stay perfect at home in the all time series against Dominican. Coming off their two goal win over Georgian Court the offense looked to stay hot.
In an even first half, both teams were getting a feel for one another as New Haven had their best looks on direct balls over the top and forcing shots at the hands of Dominican's keeper looking for a rebound. The back line for New Haven was tested on counter attacks as Dominican was able to break out and use speed to force keeper Caitlyn to make four saves in the opening haf on six shots. New Haven won the corner kick tally with a pair of chances in the first and totaled four shots in the half. In the second half both teams went back to their strategies and after a set piece it was Dominican that found the back of the net scoring the first goal of the match with a 61 minute goal. New Haven down a goal went on an all out attack looking to equalize earning two more corners and putting four shot all on net in the half but could not convert as Dominican held on to win 1-0. Daley finished with six saves as New Haven totaled eight shots, six on goal in the match.
New Haven now returns to the road for a single match in the NE10 opener against the Yellowjackets of American International College. The Chargers make the short drive to Springfield Massachusetts on Saturday September 16 with kickoff scheduled for 12:00pm.
