SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Looking to bounce back after a tough loss against the Chargers of Dominican University, the University of New Haven Women's Soccer team returned to the pitch in their first conference match of the year against the Yellow Jackets of American International College in a Saturday midday matchup.
The Yellow Jackets defense held the Chargers without a shot in the first half and struck first with a 21 minute goal to break the deadlock and go into the half with the lead. With the offense of New Haven looking to get going, they looked to their starters to bring life to the team. It's not always the quantity but the quality is what matters and in the second half that what the Chargers did getting five shots off, with three being on net and converting two of those into goals. In the 71 minute Macy Litalien (Fitchburg, Mass./Oakmont Regional) found Angelina Schilling (Sewell, N.J./Deptford Township) who leveled the match at one for her first goal of the year. Just four minutes later, Riley Drosopoulos (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) struck finding the back of the net for her second goal of the year and the lead for the Chargers with 15 left to play. With the lead New Haven played strategic and defended away the Yellow Jackets offensive to hold on and take the match 2-1. Keeper Caitlin Daley (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) finished with six saves in the win.
The Chargers following the win get to return home to Kathy Zolad Stadium where they will host a pair of conference matches with their first being against the Panthers of Adelphi University on September 19.
