West Haven, C.T- The Chargers would return to their home field under the lights of Kathy Zolad Stadium, to force take a 2-2 draw with the Hawks of Saint Anselm. Sean Lane-Turnbull (Wellington, New Zealand/Rongotai College) finding the tying goal in the 78th minute, to find the equalizer, and take away the win from the Hawks.
New Haven dominated the offensive side of the ball for the beginning of the first half, but neither team would be able to convert their offensive movements into a goal for a majority of the first half. New Haven led in the shot column finding five shots in the first half, and defensive pressure from the blue and gold would give the Hawks no room to find a shot in the first half.
Coming out of half time, Saint Anselm would be the first to strike, in the 49th minute. After a foul gave the Hawks a free kick, a long ball would find its way into the box, with one player taking possession of the ball, driving down to the baseline. The ball crossing the goal, where New Haven goalkeeper Gianluca Cersosimo would get his hand on the ball, but it would take an unfortunate roll out of reach to the feet of James Poschmann, who would open up the scoring.
For the next twenty minutes of the half the Chargers and the Hawks would go toe-to-toe, but no opportunity would convert into a goal for New Haven. Saint Anselm would find their way down the field once again, finding a shot on goal that would be saved by Cersosimo and cleared, but would quickly be intercepted by an opposing player short of the fifty. A short pass up the field would find one Hawk forward who would make a no look backwards pass to Zach Verow. Verow would find himself a shot to the back of the net right passed the finger tips of the Cersosimo, extending the Hawks lead to two.
Not long after, the Chargers would find themselves a run up the field, pushing the ball up after some loose possession play, New Haven would find Erik Cedeberg (Skaene, Sweden/Soederlaettsgymnasiet) with space on the left side to send a cross into the box. Waiting to receive would be Alexander Gunnerson, who after a blocked shot off the goalie that came back into play, would find the back of the net for the Chargers first goal of the game.
Down by one, the Chargers looked to push the offensive momentum, challenging the Saint Anselm's back line. Augustus McGiff (Brookhaven, N.Y./Bellport) taking it up the left sideline, would cut towards the middle, dribbling through a plethora of Hawk defenders. At the top of the box, a small give off would find the feet of Sean Lane-Turnball who would off his left foot find the back of the net to tie the game.
With only 11 minutes remaining in the game, both teams tried to find the winning goal, but would come up short, resulting in a draw of 2-2. The Chargers would find 10 shots on the evening, led by Sean Lane-Turnbull (Wellington, New Zealand/Rongotai College) with three shots total. Goalkeeper Gianluca Cersosimo would tally up two saves throughout the game.
With that draw the Chargers record now goes to 2-1-1 as they head across the street to take on rival Southern Connecticut on Tuesday, September 19th. That game is scheduled to take place at 1:00 p.m.
