Levitt and Chargers Defense Fall in Tough Match to Adelphi

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Coming off their come from behind win against the Yellowjackets, the University of New Haven Women's Soccer team returned home to Kathy Zolad Stadium for their first of two conference matches of the week taking on the Panthers of Adelphi University in a Tuesday afternoon match.

The Panthers put the pressure on New Haven early but the center-back pairing of Caroline Ennis (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) and Elizabeth Anderson (Lakeville, Mass./Apponequet Regional) turned danger away and stood up to Adelphi's early attack. Cypress Levitt (Calais, Vt./Montpelier) disrupted the flow of Adelphis play through the middle winning aerial and 50/50 balls forcing the Panthers to attack from the wing allowing the Chargers to pack the box and close the space down allowing easy saves to be made by Caitlin Daley (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy). After an early yellow card was shown to defender Janayah Body (West Hartford, Conn./Lawrence Academy), it would be a foul called on Body in the box giving the Panthers an early penalty that they would convert on to take the lead. Levitt continued to dominate the possession in New Haven's defensive third winning and turning away from pressure to push the attack forward. The Chargers had their best looks from the outside as Caitlyn Toom (Milford, N.H./Brewster Academy) was able to run off the back shoulder of the Adelphi defenders and have looks at crosses and goal giving a break to New Havens defense. Adelphi would score a pair of goals following the penalty  and did enough to turn away New Havens counter attacks to take the final 3-0. Daley finished with seven saves facing 10 shots as the offense combined for six shots in the match.

The conference home stand continues for New Haven as they return to Kathy Zolad Stadium on Saturday September 23 for a battle against the Falcons of Bentley University. Kick off from Kathy Zolad is scheduled for 1:00pm on the Charger Sports Network and NE10 NOW and all updates, schedules, and post-game recaps for the team will be available at Newhavenchargers.com.
