Chargers Pick up First Win of the Season Against Molloy 6-1

West Haven, CT - The New Haven Field Hockey team took the field under the DellaCamera lights to open up home play for their 2022 season. With the 6-1 the Chargers now have their first season win on the year and picked up a win for first year coach Margaret Maclean. Five different goal scorers combined to push the Chargers over the Lions of Molloy.
 
The Chargers started off strong, getting on the board in the first five minutes of the game, from a straight shot from Katherine Trammel, going wide towards the post and tipped in by Abby Nixon (Wrentham, Mass./King Phillip Regional) for her first goal of the season. It was not long after when Katherine Trammel would find her own goal, on a corner. Trammel inserting from the end line would send the ball up to the top of the circle finding Kelli Jacobson (North Branford, Conn./North Branford). Jacobson with the straight shot would deflect of the pads and would be finished by Katherine Trammel to the backboard.
 
Continuing to push the offensive, the Chargers would play a majority of the next few minutes in the midfield, with Molloy pushing to get their offense rolling. At 12:23, freshman Jordan Gagliastro (Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial) would find her first career goal, when Johanna Lee would find an open shot, firing one to the goalie's pads and being finished by Gagliastro. Not even a minute later, another freshman would take control and find their first career goal. Femke Boers (The Hague, Netherlands/Brasschaat, Belgium), starting in the backfield would intercept a pass on the sideline, beating numerous Lions players and making her way up the field. After entering the circle, Boers would pull to the right around the goalie and flick the ball to the middle of the net for her first career goal, and the fourth goal for the blue and gold on the night.
 
Katherine Trammel, leaving her mark on the Lions defense the entirety of the game, would find her second goal of the night in the 21st minute of the game. Trammel would receive the ball from a pass from Allie Brown (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) and push the ball into the corner, hitting the backboard and giving her team a 5-0 lead.
 
New Haven would top of their goal scoring with a goal from senior Audrey Larson (Gilroy, Calif./Gilroy), with Abby Nixon (Wrentham, Mass./King Phillip Regional) grabbing an assist on the goal. Throughout the game the Chargers would find a total of thirty-one shots, sixteen of those landing on goal. Nine corners would sum up the Chargers offensive on the evening.
 
The Lions of Molloy would find a goal in the 29th minute of the game, by Gianna Mastrocco.
Molloy would tally up 11 shots total, six of which would fall on goal. The Chargers rotated their roster of goalies throughout the evening, Ally Saigh (Grosse Point Woods, Mich./Grosse Point North) grab one save for herself, Hallie Reiger (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady School) also grabbing a save, and Cara Lambert (Sutton, Mass./Sutton Memorial) tallying three saves on the evening.
 
The Chargers will head back on the road, with a win under their belt, to take on the number on team in the nation the East Stroudsburg University Warriors. This game is scheduled to take place on Friday, September 8th at 4:00 p.m.
