Stroudsburg, P.A- Coming off a six-goal win Tuesday night, the Chargers hit the road and headed down to Pennsylvania to take on No. 1 East Stroudsburg. In what was a defensive battle all afternoon long, New Haven would drop a 3-0 decision, falling to a 1-2 record on the season.
East Stroudsburg would get their offense started early; within a minute of the game the Warriors would bring the ball down the field to find the first penalty corner on the afternoon. After a shot was blocked by goalkeeper Hallie Reiger (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady School), the Warriors would find the back of the night off the rebound from Reiger to open the scoring just under the two-minute mark of the game.
The Warriors would waste no time after the first quarter break, grabbing another goal in the opening minutes of the second quarter, then find their final goal with just under ten minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
East Stroudsburg would find a total of 39 shots throughout the afternoon, 21 of which would be placed on goal. New Haven's defense fended off 23 first half shots, and Hallie Reiger (Oklahoma City, Okla./Casady School) saving 11 out of the 13 shots falling on goal. With a goalkeeper switch after the half, Ally Saigh (Grosse Point Woods, Mich./Grosse Point North) would collect 7 saves out of 8 placed on goal.
Despite New Haven's efforts, the Chargers would not be able to find their way into the Warriors defensive end, making the blue and gold defense the star of the afternoon. East Stroudsburg would find a total of 13 penalty corners, but strong New Haven defense would only allow them to convert on two corners.
The Chargers will continue their road trip in Pennsylvania and return to Whitenight Field once again as they take on Mansfield on Sunday, September 10th. That game is expected for a 2:30 p.m. pass back.
