Hogan’s 18 Leads Chargers in Rivalry Battle versus SCSU

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Lindsay Hogan (Bayville, N.Y./Locust Valley) finished with a game-high 18 points as the New Haven women's basketball team (5-7, 1-7) dropped a 59-56 decision to the visiting Southern Connecticut State University Owls on Wednesday night at the Jeffery P. Hazell Athletic Center.

Hogan's 18 points led a pair of Chargers in double figures as she was joined by junior Charlotte Bassett (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) who finished with 16 points, her fifth game in the last seven with double figures in the scoring column. Hogan's 18 points also extend her team lead in the scoring column as she now stands at 12.8 points per game.

Among the two leading scorers, Bassett led the way in the field where she was 6-of-10 overall with a pair of three pointers while also going 2-of-3 at the free throw line. Hogan finished the night shooting 7-of-12 overall, also with a pair of three's, and 2-of-2 at the line. Basset also added seven rebounds to her tally.

New Haven led for all but 5:01 of the game, not surrendering the lead until 1:32 remained in the game. There were also four ties, while the Chargers biggest lead came just before the halftime break when they led by 11.

As a team, New Haven finished the game shooting 35.3 percent from the field, connecting on 18-of-51 field goal attempts, including six from beyond the three point arc. They also finished 14-of-21 at the free throw line, while leading the Owls in the battle of the boards 49-29, led by graduate post player Aurora Deshaies (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) who pulled down a baker's dozen, 13. She added that to six points, while transfer guard Makaela Johnson (Hamden, Conn./Hamden) added seven points and senior point guard Gabrielle Stickle (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) chipped in with five.

The Chargers will conclude back-to-back home games on Saturday afternoon, January 13, when they host the Saint Anselm Hawks at the Hazell Athletic Center. Tipoff in the Northeast-10 Conference game is slated for 1:30 p.m. with all of the action from Charger Gymnasium available on NE10Now.tv.
